How to Apply

Synthetic Leather for Goalie

See below for detailed video demonstrations of various pad wrap applications.

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Use the enclosed tracing paper to trace the area of your pad that you will be covering (pencil is recommended).
  2. Cut out the traced pattern you have created on the tracing paper.
  3. Lay the shape you have cut out onto the front of the pad wrap and trace the object with pencil onto the pad wrap.
  4. Cut out the shape of your pad wrap and remove the adhesive covering backing.
  5. Start at one end of the piece and smooth it down as you go along the length of the piece making sure to remove any air bubbles.
  6. We STRONGLY recommend using either a heat gun (very low heat) or hair dryer on the pad wrap to give a solid adhesion to the pad/glove. DO NOT HOLD ANY HEAT SOURCE DIRECTLY ON THE LEATHER FOR TOO LONG AS IT WILL MELT.
  7. Allow 48 hours for the adhesive to bond to your equipment before using. Make sure you have good contact between the adhesive and the piece of equipment (checking sporadically during 48 hour “set” period).

REMOVAL

To remove pad wrap from your equipment simply find a corner of the wrap and begin to pull it away from the equipment. When peeling the Pad Wrap off do it carefully so that the adhesive is coming up with the product (as opposed to leaving it behind). Pull from various sides and corners until you get a clean “peel”. This will save you time later. If a “tape-like” adhesive is left behind after you pull the leather off, peel the adhesive tape off starting at a corner very slowly.  You must remove the tape before using any other cleaners as they will not work.

If adhesive residue remains after removal, use your finger to push the residue areas towards each other and pull it away from the equipment. After you have done this and there is still some residue or stickiness that you can rub off please follow these steps…

  1. Get ether a strip of the Pad Wrap that you just removed from your equipment or an unused scrap of Pad Wrap that you didn’t use (preferred) when applying the product.
  2. If using an unused scrap, cut it into a piece that is about 5″ x 2″ and removing the backing.
  3. Push the material sticky side down onto the area that has residue remaining. Push it down really hard with your hand and pull it back up. Repeat this continuously until it pulls all of the residue up (it can take up to 10 times for really big pieces of residue).
  4. California Scents Spray Citrus Cleaner does a great job of removing Pad Wrap residue.  Simply spray onto the area, let it sit for a few minutes and then wipe adhesive in on direction to remove.  You can purchase this product at most stores such as Wal-Mart (link to product)

Nylon Pad Wrap for Goalies

These instructions are for the nylon material for affixing to the nylon/fabric portions of your equipment.

INSTRUCTIONS

NOTE: If you see air bubbles in the nylon fabric this is normal and only caused by the backing that you will be peeling away.  Once you peel the backing away and apply these air bubbles will disappear.

  1. Use the enclosed tracing paper to trace the area of the nylon section that you will be covering (pencil is recommended).
  2. Cut out the traced pattern you have created on the tracing paper.
  3. Lay the shape you have cut out onto the front of the nylon wrap and trace the object with pencil onto the nylon wrap.
  4. Cut out the shape of your nylon wrap and carefully remove the adhesive covering backing (make sure you are not peeling away the adhesive along with the backing – the adhesive needs to stick to the back of the material).  Be sure to cut OUTSIDE of the area you trace – you can always cut away more material but you can’t put back what you cut away!
  5. Start at one end of the piece and smooth it down as you go along the length of the piece making sure to remove any air bubbles.  If the piece you applied is too large, gently peel up the overhanging edge and trim it with scissors and stick back down.

REMOVAL

To remove pad wrap from your equipment simply find a corner of the wrap and begin to pull it up.  If adhesive residue remains after removal, use your finger to push the residue areas towards each other and pull it away from the equipment. If there is still residue get ether a strip of the Pad Wrap that you removed or an unused scrap of Pad Wrap that you didn’t use (preferred) when applying the product.   If using an unused scrap, cut it into a piece that is about 5″ x 2″ and removing the backing. Push the material sticky side down onto the area that has residue remaining. Push it down really hard with your hand and pull it back up. Repeat this continuously until it pulls all of the residue up (it can take up to 10 times for really big pieces of residue).

Custom Cut Logos & Stripes

These instructions are for applying custom-cut logos and stripes to your pads and gloves.

1. Peel the leather material away from the backing paper (as opposed to trying to peel the backing paper from the leather).  This will make it easier to start the peeling process without removing any of the adhesive.

2. Hover the logo/stripe over the desired area for alignment purposes.

3.  Stick the piece to the pad smoothing it down with your hand firmly to avoid any air bubbles or creases.   If you place it down misaligned, simply pull it up and put it back down.

4. For a long-term application, use a little heat with a hair dryer to ensure complete adhesion.

5.  Let custom-cut piece fully cure for 48 hours before using the equipment.

Slick Sheet

These instructions are for the SLICK SHEET material for affixing to the inside leg channels of your pads for increased slide in roller/ball hockey surface.

NOTE:  Do not be alarmed if you see air bubbles in the sheet – this is normal and will not affect application or effectiveness of the product.

  1. Use the enclosed tracing paper to trace the area of your pad that you will be covering (pencil is recommended).  Make sure you cut areas that are smaller than the area you want to cover.  The product will not work well if you try to wrap it around corners of your pads…it should only cover the top surface.
  2. Cut out the traced pattern you have created on the tracing paper.
  3. Lay the shape you have cut out onto the front of the slick sheet and trace the object with pencil onto the slick sheet.
  4. Cut out the shape of your slick sheet piece and remove the adhesive covering backing (make sure you are not peeling away the adhesive along with the backing – the adhesive needs to stick to the back of the material).
  5. Start at one end of the piece and smooth it down as you go along the length of the piece.  The areas that make good contact will become darker in color.  There will still be some air-bubbles as no pad is 100% flat and that is ok – you just want to maximize surface area contact.  For any very large air bubbles you can poke small holes with a pin or the point of a utility knife to release the air and then push the air bubble down on the pad.
  6. Allow 48 hours for the adhesive to bond to your equipment before using. Make sure you have good contact between the adhesive and the piece of equipment (checking sporadically during 48 hour “set” period).
